Report of Surf Camp 2018
Surfers Gathered at SoCal Beach
Surf Camp in Summer 2018
Reported By Susan Felsenthal Janer
Once again, Captain Jack Ashworth and Captain Dan Hallal invited surfers from around the country to join in a 3 day Surfin’ Safari from August 13 to 15 in Sunny Southern California.
Meeting at Doheny State Beach, 15 fearless young people spent the first day braving the rocks and the pounding waves as we paddled out to meet the challenging ocean. The ocean offers us an amazing variety of experiences. No one is too old or too young to gain something wonderful from the ocean. Here in Southern California, we are blessed to have some of the finest beaches in the world!
At the end of the first day, the Safari traveled south to the San Onofre Campground to set up camp for the night, and the hungry surfers enjoyed barbequed hamburgers. We made s'mores over a blazing campfire, roasted to each person’s personal standard of perfection.
The second day we went to "Old Man’s Beach" at San Onofre. It is a real old-fashioned surfing beach. In the evening we went to San Clemente to have dinner with Andre and Raymonde Meyer… this dinner party has become a tradition with our Surf Camp.
Then, back to the campsite for another night under the stars. On the third day we woke up to a good cup of coffee and one more day of surfing.
Hope to see you next year!
